I am sure my neighbors heard me this morning singing “The Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS. It’s busy here. The kids are now 24 (for a few more days), 16, 12, and 11. Since I teach full time, a few weeks in June and the month of July I’m home. It’s rarely quiet here. We chose private school rather than a larger house. Sometimes, this 1600 square feet can get loud. SOMEtimes? Let me rephrase that to say, on rare occasion is it quiet. When the two men left for work before seven and closed the front door this morning, I realized something. IT. IS. QUIET. HERE. I’m so very thankful that two of my children are serving in another state this week with 115 others from our church. Since our school is hosting a conference this week for other Classical schools in our region, Little Bit went to spend the week with Grandmother and Papa. IT. IS. QUIET. HERE. Barefooted in my kitchen loading the dishwasher, I just belted out, “Ha-lay-loo-ya, Ha-lay-loo-ya, Ha-laa-aayyyy-looo-ya!” Dancing in circles I realized the neighbors might could hear me so I regained composure. Quiet. Solitude. No one asking questions. Such a rare treat for something our world never seems to experience. So I gather my morning pink water and sit down for reflection. I mean no disrespect to Mr. Handel or The Messiah. Heaven knows you don’t leave my classroom without knowing you MUST stand when that song is performed! Ask any fifth grader whose survived a year in room 125. However, that song….the truth of that song….For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth….hear the birds singing? Reminds me of Matthew chapter 6 and the great truth of sparrow provisions. May you sing at the top of your lungs, but remember to STOP and bask in the solitude of peace that only comes from the Prince of Peace. Hallelujah, forever and ever and ever.
